2025 Photography Competition Winners Announced
The Brigham City Museum of Art & History invites everyone to explore its latest exhibition, the 2025 Photography Competition. Photographers have poured their creativity into interpreting the theme, “Wild Life.” This theme explores the creatures of the animal kingdom, nature, and the wildness of our everyday lives. The exhibition opened on October 4th and will be at the museum until December 6th, 2025.
This year’s First Place award goes to Amanda Porter of West Haven for her piece, “Be Wild”. Second Place was award to Nathan West of West Haven for his piece, “The Curious One”, and Third Place goes to Nicholas Ioan Lazaroae of Ogden for his piece, “Great Salt Lake Plain: Remembering Corrals.” The Merit Award for this year was given to Mary Bybee of Hyrum for her piece, “End of the Road.” There will be an Audience Choice award announced at the end of the exhibition, and visitors to the exhibition are asked to submit their votes.
“Getting close to the wild is so beautiful,” said Fazilat Soukhakian, this year’s judge, of one of the pieces in the exhibition. Of another she said that it brought a “different perspective to the wild.” Her commentary ranged from composition to subject matter, reflecting the variety of images submitted for this year’s competition.
Fazilat is an Iranian American artist, photographer, and scholar and is currently an Associate Professor of Photography at Utah State University. She is a visual storyteller who reflects on the social and political issues of her surroundings as a means for social change and justice. Her work revolves around depicting the stories of bravery and strength of those marginalized by society, highlighting the act of overcoming struggle and inspiring others. Fazilat’s work has garnered significant recognition and has been featured nationally and internationally in numerous exhibitions.
The exhibit also features a unique scavenger hunt and art activity, making it an engaging and inspiring experience for the whole family. Admission is free. The Museum is located at 24 North 300 West. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. Guided tours are available by appointment. Visit museum.bcutah.gov for more information.
